Adjust product photo canvas with LunaPic - Tech Tips
Running an e-commerce store with Squarespace and having difficulty getting supplier photos to look consistent? This LunaPic training video may be your answer.
This short tutorial with LunaPic will enable you to add canvas to portrait or landscape images (white background) to make them appear more consistent. The photo editor is free to use and completely web based, so you will not need to install any software. Find and upload the image from your computer to get started. Once you have completed the edit, you can then save the image file to your computer before adding to Squarespace. I would recommend editing a batch of images (or all images depending on the number) before uploading them to the website. This will increase your efficiency. Heck, you can even reward yourself with a fresh cup of coffee for every 10 photos (that’s what I do!).
What is LunaPic?
LunaPic is a free Adobe Photoshop alternative based in the browser. Although there is a huge range of online photo editing tools available, this particular option can be a great solution for you, providing you are not bothered my the on-screen advertisements. The main feature I like when editing photos is the option to edit the image canvas. Don’t expect a highly polished interface with LunaPic, It is a little tired looking, however on the plus side, it isn’t coded in flash like some alternative options, so it is more likely to be compatible with your PC.
In addition to the features already mentioned, there is a wide array of photo effects baked in to the system and it also allows the user to retouch photos with ease. It gets the job done quickly and with little fuss, not too shabby for a free online photo editor.
All main image and video formats are supported including GIF, JPG, BMP, PNG, AVI, MPG, MOV, FLV and RM (and a whole host more). The maximum total upload size is 20 Mb per file.
There is a help section on the LunaPic website if you get stuck with any aspect of the editor, you can also contact customer support via the enquiry form. So to summarise, LunaPic certainly isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Adobe Photoshop, which would be an unrealistic (also an unfair) comparison to make, but it is great value (free) if you do not want to splash out on Adobe Creative Clout at this stage.
