Dan-Y-Bont Series

In July 2016, Mali and Trystan's lives were forever altered when their father, Dan, tragically took his own life.

In honor of his memory, the DPJ Foundation was established with the mission to provide support to individuals within the agricultural community grappling with mental health challenges.

Following the devastating loss of their father, Mali and Trystan found themselves in a profoundly isolating situation. They felt alone in their experience, unable to connect with anyone who had endured a similar ordeal. Making sense of what had happened and coming to terms with their grief proved to be an arduous journey. This is why the Dan Y Bont book series was conceived. Through the story of Will, they hope to offer solace and guidance to other children who, like them, have suddenly lost a loved one. Their aim is to shed light on the diverse ways people cope with loss and grief and help these children find a path forward. Above all, they wish to remind them to always share their burdens.

BRIEF

Green Wellies (Our sister company) was approach to create a publish a series of three children’s books tackling tough subjects which the DPJ foundation was established to help support. Throughout the UK, there is a lack of support available for those suffering with poor mental health in rural communities. Through the DPJs work, It became clear that there was a lack of awareness around mental health, everyone had been touched by suicide but very little was being done to combat the issue. The DPJ foundation set-out to fix this, offering support and a platform for those suffering to reach out.

SOLUTION

Our goal was to illustrate scenes from the picturesque farming scenery from Wales which farmers could relate to. The illustrations took a soft pastoral look and feel compared to our other projects with Green Wellies Publishing. The books have been created for children in a delicate tone whilst not shying away from the core topic. The resource enables families to “start a conversation” around these topics, facing the situation head on so the reader can heal, understand and help others. These books will be distributed across schools in Wales as an aid to help families which have encountered these situations and support them.
