Augmented reality directions coming to Google Maps

A new augmented reality Street View mode has been announced to help you visualise and follow directions in real time.

The new AR feature will combine Google’s Street View and Maps with a live feed from the camera on your smartphone. The result will overlay walking directions on top of the camera view to provide you with real-world instructions and landmarks.

Augmented reality directions will work alongside another new features, personalised recommendations, helping you to discover places in your local vicinity.

The new augmented reality directions feature will go one step further than the traditional map apps found on smartphones. You will be able to unleash the combination of Google Maps with your smartphone camera.
